A very good sounding and playing fiddle, has a nice woody sound. Have used this fiddle in jam sessions, and it accounts for itself very nicely.

VN20_00 VIOLIN, 1892 American A.D.SHATTUCK N/A 1000 Made in 1892 in Granby, Conn. Brown finish, two piece back of strong medium curl w/ matching sides and neck, well executed scroll, has a couple repaired cracks on top (no bass bar or soundpost cracks, however), ebony fittings, handsome fiddle with a nice voice. AD Shattuck was a highly respected American painter -- his paintings sell for well into 5 figures, and became a violin maker after a succesful painting career.  This violin has excellent workmanship, sounds great, plays very well, and is made with fine woods.

VN28_00 VIOLIN, 4/4 Markneukirchen EDMUND PAULUS n/a 1800 Beautiful violin from around 1910.  Rosewood pegs, ebony fittings, moderate curl, reddish/orange  finish, the lower bout is slightly larger than standard.  This violin has a terrific voice which is smooth and resonant and has excellent volume.  The Paulus family has a long history in Markneukirchen of producing very good quality instruments.  No cracks, but does have well repaired seam separation on the top under the tailpiece, and the finish has a couple defect places on the back.

VN4_07 VIOLIN, 4/4 no name   1000 Super looking violin with terrific flame , excellent top, nicely executed scroll, and nice inlays of ebony on the back and top near the end block.  This violin is reminiscent of American violins I've seen, though it follows fairly closely a Strad pattern.  The voice is warm and clear and has good projection.
VN1_08 VIOLIN, 4/4 no name   100 looks like it was pretty well made, fully blocked and lined and nicely purfled,  but has had a poor French polish attempt made and was in a moist environment so many of the glue joints have come undone including the back is off and the neck and fingerboard are off.
VN2_08 VIOLA, 4/4 Strad   300 Full size viola made in Czechoslovakia. Ebony fittings, moderate flame on maple back, sides, and neck.  Top has repaired seam separation.  Looks like it may have been refinished with oil varnish, which give it improved tone and sustain. Includes hard case.
VN1_09 VIOLIN, 4/4 Oskar Seidel   1500 Well made violin circa 1920's from Markneukirchen shop of Seidel.  Handsome woods, fully blocked and lined with very neat workmanship, has nicely repaired crack on the table on the treble side.  It is built on a Strad pattern and has a strong clear voice.
VN2_09 Violin 4/4 Ernesto Pevere   3400 Nice old Italian violin from 1924, made in Ferrara Italy.  A terrific sounding violin with a strong and clear voice.  Built largely on a Strad pattern, great workmanship, beautiful supple oil finish. One of my very favorite violins to play.
VN3_09 Viola 3/4 G.A. PFRETSCHNER   400 Well made 3/4 viola from the 50's or 60's by a well regarded German shop. Some violinists like to use 3/4 violas for harmonizing because the scale length is quite close to that of a 4/4.  This viola is in near perfect condition.
VN4_09 Silent Violin NO NAME More pics 600 From the 1920's or there-abouts, this "silent Violin is a well made and looks great.  Comprised of maple and ebony, it feels like a traditional violin, but projects very light tone.  It appears to have a piece spliced in under the bridge and has two small holes in the back, but generally is in very nice condition.  Some players like to put a pick-up on these to use as an electric violin.

VN9_11 Violin Stainer label   1000 Very handsome woods and workmanship made in Germany in early 20th century on a Stainer pattern.  Strong flame on two piece back, wood on back, sides, and neck appear to match. Ebony fittings including a very nice ebony chinrest. Has a nice warm voice. Small saddle crack on the bass side, no other cracks or repairs.

VN6_13 Violin 3/4 Strad label   300 This is a beautiful, well made, and good sounding 3/4.  I believe it to be of German or Bohemian origin from early 1900's and was made as an artificially old instrument way back then. The finish is a warm oil varnish, the wood selection is excellent with handsome tight flame, and it re,arkably has no cracks or repairs.  Comes with a vintage wood case.
VN8_13 Violin, 4/4  no label   300 Handsome vioilin that has been well played.  Appears to be early 20th century Bohemian, fully blocked and lined, and has nice woods and strong well rounded voice.  The fingerboard exhibits considerable wear, however it plays in in all positions. This is a violin that has been well loved and has the nice resonance that comes from years of considerable use. Sold

GA2_09 GUITAR, Lap Steel Magnatone? n/a 200 Nice old art deco lap steel -- I'd guess from the 40's.  I haven't been able to identify the maker conclusively, though a knowledgable dealer said he believes it is a Magnatone.  It has had a replacement pick-up installed and sounds and plays great. Also have the original pick-up I'll include.  It's an old single coil and would need to be rewound to work. Includes a tight-fitting chipboard case.

Body appears to be walnut, top is spruce.  Dimensions - nut = 1 7/8", Lower bout 13", upper bout 9.25", scale length24", body depth 4".  Has quite a few repaired cracks and some inlay missing, but is in good playing condition and the repairs are well done and stable. Intonation is accurate, action is friendly, and has a great tone for fingerstyle mat'l/

GA3_10 GUITAR, D2H Collings 1809 3000 Collings flagship guitar modelled after the D28 Martin. I've compared this Collings to quite a few Martin D28's, and this one has a clear advantage in both volume and the clarity of the tone. It has solid rosewood back and sides,mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard, herringbone binding, spruce top. Frets have some wear, but have considerable life left before they need to be replaced. Includes original case

Comes with the original chipboard case which has been sorta poorly repaired at the edges with hot melt glue. 
GA7_11 Guitar, acoustic LGO Gibson 365270 600 Looks to be about 1965 production, all solid mahogany, good intonation, bridge saddle lifting slightly, finish is rough with scratches and finish checking, frets and neck are in good shape -- easy playing and good sounding -- just right for studio work. Missing pickguard and probably are replacement tuners.  Has a couple repaired/cleated cracks on the back.
GA8_11 Guitar, Classical William Hartig 8754 800 This is a handmade classical comprised of solid rosewood body, solid spruce top, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard.  Scale lentgh is 650mm.  It has a fine voice for performance -- clear and strong. Intonation is excellent, action is quite friendly.  Has miscellaneous scratches and dings, a smallish nicely repaired crack on top and a couple nicely repaired cracks of the back, but no other repairs or issues. I've compared the sound and playability of this guitar against some pretty nice instruments (Martin classical, Kohno, , Horabe, Joaquin Garcia), and it compares very favorably.
GA9_11 Guitar, Electric Archtop ES-150 Gibson   1300 Terrific old Gibson ES150 from 1954.  Has great tobacco sunburst finish, P90 pick-up, original tuners with new buttons, and original rosewood fingerboard replaced with ebony fingerboard, rosewood bridge replaced with ebony floating bridge.  It plays extremely easily and sounds perfect.  The finish has some bubbling/crazing especially on the sides and front of the headstock, but it's all intact.  No cracks or repairs.
GA1_12 Guitar, OM size Kirk Sand   2000 Kirk Sand is one of the most respected luthiers today, and it's easy to understand why with his exacting focus on detail and the remarkable voice his instruments produce (see John Knowles, Chet Atkins, Richard Smith, etc).  This is on of Kirks Laguna acoustic steel strings made in the 1980s, birds eye maple back and sides, spruce top, maple neck, ebony fingerboard and ebony binding and bridge.  It's a fine OM-size with a voice that truly impresses. All solid woods, appears to be all original, sounds terrific, has a nicely repaired crack on the back, misc small dingsmoderate fret wear, plays great. Includes chipboard case

The pickguard has small amount of is crumbling, but otherwise looks all original, and includes original hard case which probably has replacement handle. Godd playing and sounding mando!
MA1_10 Mandolin Sovereign More pics 350 Nice 1920's vintage, solid spruce top, handsome rope binding, solid mahogany back, sides, and neckrosewood fingerboard.  Probably made by Oscar Schmidt. Has one repaired crack on the back (glued, cleated and stable), no cracks on the top, neck is true and it's easy playing and has that old time sound with good intonation.  Includes vintage heavy chipboard case.

Y1_00 YUE QIN CHINESE N/A 150 Yue Qin or Moon lute, antique oak and ivory, repaired cracks on back, but is playable and strung. Appears to have replacement pegs.
UK2_10 Taropatch antique   300 Fine old taropatch (8-string on a tenor uke body). The top is a bit wavy but seems stable. All handsome mahogany.  It's been played and has some wear on the fingerboard, but is very playable with nice wood binding and rosette. I've been told this is a Regal,and it does well resemble the taropatch featured in the the book on Regal instruments by Bob Carlin.

SA10_04 SAXOPHONE, BARITONE ARISTOCRAT BUESCHER more 1100 BIG B,  lacquer about 85%+ intact, overall in nice shape, includes original Norton springs and snap-in pads.  Has some minor dents, but does not appear to have much wear.  The loss of lacquer is principally due to being stored and used without a case.

Includes original Buescher case which needs a handle but is otherwise in good condition, and includes what appears to be the original Buescher moutpiece, cap and ligature.

SA3_08 SAXOPHONE, Alto Conn 115668 250 New Wonder model.  It has micro-tuner neck, rolled tone holes.  It's low pitch, serial dates it to 1923.  It has a fair amount of oxidation both in the lacquer and at posts, etc, but looks like it'll clean up and restore OK -- it will need a complete overhaul to be playable.  All the parts are there, and appears to be all original. It'll ship in a beat but functional replacement case.
SA4_08 SAXOPHONE, Alto Noblet 7884 375 Made in Paris.  I believe this is a Beaugnier stencil.  It has a great voice and easy key action.  Some pads could use replacement, but it does play through the register.  Brass body which is mostly lacquer-free, nickel or chrome plated keys. Has evindence of some dedent of the bow, but otherwise no dents or repairs.  Includes old replacement case.
SA3_09 SAXOPHONE, Alto Buescher 205759 125 Nice Buescher TrueTone circa 1925, silver matte finish with nice engraving, low pitch, missing neck and octave key and post.  Body and plating are both in nice conditions.  A good parts horn, or, if you have a tired truetone, use the neck and octave key with this one which shows very little wear. No case

TO1_07 Trombone, New Proportion KING 107814 225 SILVER, circa 1927, has had some dedent on the bell flare (though not around the engraving, some wear trhough of the plating at contact points, stockings have some wear but function fine.   This is a King "New Proportion" Orchestral Model 1405 with a .481"/.508" dual-bore.  The model 1405 was officially part of the new line that was introduced at the "1930 Break" in the H.N. White Co. product line. However this trombone was apparently a pre-introduction model. The serial #107814, plus the curved truss hand brace on the slide indicate it was made prior to 1930. The H.N.White Co. did not introduce dualbore Kings until 1930. It will need outer tubing on the handslide or patching -- there are a couple small holes in the tubing.  Includes non-original case
TO7_06 TROMBONE,   COUTERIER   350 SILVER,  ROUGHLY 1920 VINTAGE, GOOD CONDITION W/ ORIGINAL MP, REPLACEMENT CASE,UNUSUAL SLIDE DESIGNE. A Couturier was known as one of the top cornetists in the US at the end of the 19th century.  He also composed music and ultimately designed a new tubing system for brass instruments to achieve better tonality. In 1916, he formed a company to make a complete line of his "Conical Bore" Instruments. "Couturier Model" cornets were also made by Conn, Holton and York.
TO2_08 TROMBONE,  50H Conn M91553 400 SILVER with F attachment, has had some dedent on bell tube and tuning crook, but overall in pretty OK shape, plating is well intact but has misc scuffs and scratches, slide works well but has some wear on stockings.  Includes a very beat Conn case or can include a new very sturdy SKB molded case for extra $140.
TO3_08 TROMBONE,  5H Conn 191200 400 SILVER 1926 vintage horn with additional tuning slide to provide low F.  This was a high end Conn horn with nice engraving.  Stockings have some wear but are still very playable, slide needs a little attention for sticking, only very minor dedent of tenor tuning slide, silver plate is nice -- just worn at hand contact points. Includes original case which is rough but functional.
TO4_08 TROMBONE,  Director Conn 541494 300 Director trombone with Coprion bell circa 1955.  Mostly lacquer free, has some evidence of minor dedent on the bell, tuning crook, and handslide crook. Stockings show some wear, but have considerable life left, and the slide is smooth and fast. Includes original case which is beat but functional
TO2_12 Trombone Wm Frank   200 Nice antique Wm Frank trombone.  It is nearly lacquer-free, and the stockings/slides are in good shape with almost no wear. Some very minor dings.  Comes in a vintage Getzen tweed case which is pretty cool.
TO1_13 Trombone FE Olds 45850 140 Pretty good old 1950 Olds Ambassador produced in Los Angeles.  Tuning and hand slides are in good shape, tuning slide appears to have some dedent, appears to be lacquer-free.  Includes nice wood Holton case which fits it perfectly. 
TO4_13 Trombone FE Olds 833015 160 Nice Olds tenor trombone made in the Fullerton --circa 1972.  Lacquer is about 90-95% intact with some wear at contact points, slides work appropriately, a few miscellaneous small dings and scratches. Includes mouthpiece and case.
TO1_15 Trombone, 2B Liberty King 438577 1200 Excellent King 2B Liberty tenor trombone in lacquered brass made in 1993.  Lacquer is in fine shape, probably 99% intact.  Has a few very shallow point dings and some minor dedent on the tuning slide.  Hand slide is silky smooth, and tuning slide works appropriately.  The case is a cool vintage tweed-like King wood case with leather trim and hardware all works just right.

TR5_09 Trumpet, 22B Conn 154215 300 A nice early Conn 22b New York Symphony (circa 1925) in raw brass and unusual coprion valve bodies.  The valve bodies have some pitting, and no serial is visible on the valve body, however, the valves are marked with the serial number.  Engraving on the bell is worn but visible.  Valves have some light pitting, but are in surprisingly good shape.  Includes original tweed case which is in good functional condition. 
TR1_10 Trumpet, 22B Conn   950 Wonderful Conn22b New York Symphony  with silver plate and gold highlights for the elaborate engraving.  Wonderfullly detailed engraving.  Valves and slides are in good shape.  It appears to have some ferrules replaced on slides, and looks like one brace was nicely resoldered.  Only very minor dents/scratches.  Gold wash in bell is still in fine shape.  Includes original case w/replacement handle, mute, rotary valve and straight slides with leadpipe extension, and original Conn case.

Lacquer is probably 50% intact, has original case which is damaged byt functional, and original Conn 7C mouthpiece which looks a lot like a Bach 7C
